Vets Helping Vets: Laurel Supports Swingin’ for Our Vets Tournament

By Kristy Warren

The Laurel Health Centers believe in veterans helping veterans, becoming platinum sponsors of this year’s “Swingin’ for Our Vets” event to raise funds to feed local veterans and their families.

Now in its second year, Wolverine Enterprises’ “Swingin’ for Our Vets” golf tournament seeks to raise $50,000 to support 250 local veterans and their families throughout the year. Wolverine Enterprises partnered closely with the Laurel Health Centers and community donors to match funds.

The funds will be used toward youth scholarships and to purchase meals to be distributed through the Blossburg Food Bank.

Brad Robinson, CEO of Wolverine Enterprises (second from left), accepts a $750 donation from three veteran leaders at the Laurel Health Centers: from left, Ron Gilbert, U.S. Army veteran and Laurel Health Centers’ Chief Financial Officer; James A. Nobles, U.S. Navy veteran and President & CEO of the Laurel Health Centers; and Jessica Cleveland, U.S. Airforce veteran and Director of Resource Development & Employee Relations.

“Our military personnel and their families make great sacrifices in service to our country, and we want to lend our veterans a helping hand whenever we can to show our gratitude and appreciation for all they do,” explains James A. Nobles, President of the Laurel Health Centers, and a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief.

“We form a special bond in service together,” continues Nobles. “As a veteran myself, and as part of a healthcare system that proudly employs many veterans, we wanted to lend our support to this tournament’s laudable goal of providing healthy, nutritious meals for our local service members.”
